ADHD: Pay attention to it

ADHD
All kids are hyper
We all have seen kids getting overexcited and probably we ourselves have been inattentive when we were kids (maybe even now). Today in fact that 5 out of 10 kids may be hyperactive. However, similarity in pattern and commonality of occurrence is not a defense for abnormality. We need to comprehend ADHD better so we can take care of our children. ADHD comprises inattentiveness, over-activity, impulsivity, or a combination. Of course these need to be excess of normal to actually consider it to be a problem or disorder.

Self control (2)

Out of control?
It is each one’s own brain in that skull in their own head. None but us are obligated to take charge of it. Man may conduct experiments in animals but the motive is to predict responses in himself. Change (for the better) is a challenge. We can’t change how the world thinks and behaves; but we most definitely are monarchs of our own intellect. One only has to make the wiser choice for a sager outcome.

Self-compassion or Self-pity? (2)

Right from wrong
In more cases than less, those who do the incorrect thing know that it is erroneous. Awareness is not a predictor of righteousness. Insight has different levels of cognizance and these foretell the quantum of behavior change in response to that level. The most common (and possibly worst) of all is knowledge without corresponding action.
  • Exercise is good for health (how many do it?)
  • Sadness isn't a defense (who realizes that?)
  • Giving up isn’t an option (who acts on it?)
  • Anger is destructive (who keeps it in mind?)
  • Patience cures half the troubles (Oh really?)
  • Kindness is better than wrath (do we do it?)
Few follow what they deem right for themselves. Anger, rage, blame, guilt, negativism and self-pity are internalized emotions that sprout from unresolved external conflicts. They rot the interior without us appreciating the damage they are capable of…

How dependent are you?

Humans are needy from the moment they’re born. Among the entire animal kingdom, Homo sapiens babies are the most dependent; for food, care, nurturance and comfort. With age, they do ripen their ability to shoulder personal responsibilities and deal with challenges that life offers along its path. Sometimes their progenitors over indulge and inculcate disproportionate dependency; however there is still possibility of independence if emotional and social development take place appropriately. In an ideal world, one takes accountability for personal actions and their outcomes. This allows for self-reliance and offers a sense of security which is a mandate for a fulfilling existence.

All the world’s a stage

world a stage
Shakespeare can be well described as a psychoanalyst who knew well that the persona accepted by every human being is a mask. This makes each one an actor playing his part in the drama titled ‘life’. It’s indeed an act, not a puppet show, emphasizing that the part is played by the performer, who has the right to choose the way he plays it. A show where there’s no director, producer or scriptwriter. A performance that is made at free will…

When your child is lying to you

he lied to you
Fear: the driver
The main reason people lie (kids and adults included) is because they're afraid that if they tell the truth, something unpleasant will happen. Lying is a defense mechanism. It's an attempt to protect from perceived danger. People who lie tend to be scared in some way.  Your children maybe scared of you. They sense that autocratic authoritativeness and tremble. That must not make you proud. Parents often misconstrue fear for respect. Fear is enforced; respect is instinctive.

Half empty? Half full? Fully half?

positive pessimism
half yet full?
Optimism itself seems ironical. You have to be highly optimistic to even talk of optimism these days. Most of us are pessimistic about optimism! The world is not perfect and that’s a harsh reality. It’s not so easy to believe that faith is all you need; and that:
This will work out for the best…
It will surely get better…
It’s going to go well…
It’s just fine…
It’s OK…
It’s not always OK. But we have to make it ok. The glass has water to 50% of its optimum capacity. So really is it half empty, or half full, or fully half?
